Old Fashioned Sugar Cookies

Ingredients

Cookies:
2/3 cup butter
½ teaspoon Mannix Family 2X Vanilla
¾ cup granulated sugar
1 egg
4 teaspoons half and half
1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
¼ teaspoon salt
2 ¼ cups all purpose flour

Buttercream Icing:
½ stick of salted butter
1 box confectioners sugar
3 Tablespoons half and half
½ teaspoon Mannix Family Vanilla

Directions

Cookies:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cream butter, sugar, and vanilla. Add egg and half and half and beat thoroughly. Mix dry ingredients and blend with creamed mixture.

For rolled cookies: Divide dough and chill at least one hour. For best results, chill the other half of dough until ready to use. Prepare rolling surface and rolling pin by dusting with flour. Roll dough to 1/8 inch thickness. Cut in desired shapes and baked on lightly greased cookie sheet for six minutes. Remove from cookie sheets and cool thoroughly before frosting. Frost with butter cream (recipe below) or decorator’s icing. Note: We don’t suggest substitutions—e.g. margarine for butter.

For mini drop cookies: Reduce flour by ¼ cup. Put dough in zip type bag and cut one small (size of nickel) hole in one corner. Squeeze and bake on lightly greased cookie sheets for four-five minutes. Remove from cookie sheets and cool thoroughly before frosting. Frost with butter cream (recipe below) or decorator’s icing. Note: We don’t suggest substitutions—e.g. margarine for butter.

Buttercream Icing:
Cream together butter, sugar, half and half or heavy whipping cream, and vanilla until fluffy consistency.

This is a delicious icing but not for decorating. For decorating, check your favorite classic cookbook or online.
